As much as I would love to say that life is totally free-ballin’ it, it just doesn’t seem to be the case. I would like to believe we maintain some control since we can fight our own instincts, we have all had prophetic dreams. Perhaps not often, and never about anything that important, but I have absolutely seen future events in my dreams.

Perhaps we had total free will at one point but since time is infinite and does not go in a straight line then perhaps the here and now also happened billions of years ago and that we are simply a rerun.

Best not to focus on the whole “woe is me, i’m just a pre-destined loser” thing, and instead try to focus on what you want to be, because at least then your mind will believe that you had free will and made yourself what you are.

Or you could just rationalize everything and say “God works in mysterious ways”.

Time is already set. Everything that is going to happen is going to happen exactly as it will. It is set in stone. We don’t see it that way because we do not have the ability to see in the future. There is no fate on the personal level because of this, but on a universal scale fate is absolute.

…and this is how General Relativity looks at it, but those familiar with GR do not seem to understand the implications.

You can say that our live already planned out and they were planned out before we were even born. Like Albert Einstein said “If we could predict the path of every particle in the universe we could predict the future.” Everything that happens in the universe happens because it is influenced by a previous action. This works from the molecular level all the way to the astronomical level. It’s simple physics “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” Think of it this way if you’re playing billiards the balls on the table aren’t going to move on their own, they’re only going to move if you hit them with the cue ball. And they don’t move randomly, the force and direction of the cue ball will determine the path taken by the balls on the table. Its nice to think that we are all people who have choices and make our own decisions in our every day lives. But every decision that we make is influenced by another previous event. And the previous event was influenced by preceding events, and so on all the way back to the “Big Bang”. The Big Bang was also influenced by some kind of events in the universe but that is outside our range of knowledge.
