So, I have lots of gadgets, but sometimes I can’t rationalize ones that seem like they will go unused. One of these examples would be the video dock for the iPod. Now I was fairly sure I could convert my car player to be able to output to my TV with little effort. In researching this I discovered that all you need to output the video was a CHEAP 1/8″-to-RCA Cable. You can get one of these at Radio Shack or some other electronics store for only a few bucks. I as it tends to be, had one laying around.

Now there is a trick to this. Apple thought they would be all unique and switch the wires around (just like they put their quicktime movies in their images directory and their images in their movies directory…. ). So make sure you plug the wires in exactly like this:

RED Cable - YELLOW Hole
YELLOW Cable - WHITE Hole
WHITE Cable - RED Hole

I didn’t have any trouble with mine, but I have heard that a couple people had to switch their output to PAL to get it to work even on NTSC TV’s. That seems crazy to me, but in case it happens to you try that.

Ok so I have had my own method of getting YouTube FLV files before today, but thanks to Google and their wonderful archiving of all things there is now an easier way! A way that could be automated (hint hint). Flash videos are not only sexy, but they come without the ugly YouTube players so you can use your own. It’s so easy you can probably remember how to do it without looking it up!
