Good Ol’ PSP-Hacker

The PSP has now become one of the best items I have purchased in a long time. Considering it was a really expensive impulse buy It has now paid off. The other day somebody made a firmware hack that allows american PSP owners to play all the homebrew software and emulators that people have released for the japanese PSP’s.

Sony being pissy doesn’t want people to play emulators and other homebrew software so they keep updating the firmware on the system to prevent it. However thanks to some clever hackers there is now a swap trick to be able to play all this stuff. The emulators are quite polished having been started from source code for the windows versions. My psp is now also a: Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Genesis, Sega Master System, Gameboy Color, PCEngine, NeoGeo Pocket.

Since I had to buy a big memory stick now I can also, convert any of my dvd’s or xvid files to play on the psp (and damn the screen on the psp looks good), I can play mp3’s, convert text to picture albums allowing me to read e-books on it. Somebody made a calculator, a calendar, a timer, and a lot of other really kick ass things for it as well.

The newest thing to come out is a firmware hack somebody made that allows you to use the swap trick to replace the backgrounds for the PSP. I took the time to make 2 art collections from the artwork on this website, and they can be downloaded from here.

Still I highly reccomend a PSP to anybody who is still considering buying one. It kicks ass.

…You’d think Sony would think ahead and not release a product like the PSP if it would be capable of so many things. Well, it’s not your fault if you find ways to cheat the system: they are the ones that gave you the techonolgy. Give someone a gun, and expect them to use it. ;)

they are trying to be dicky and make everybody get firmware upgrades when they purchase new games in the future, but that will just cause people to not buy new games and bootleg them instead… i was planning to BUY new games, but i won’t do it if i am going to loose my nes/snes/genesis/gameboy/etc….

ok, theft is takin what is not yours.
I you can dream it, then its yours if you can make it. If everyone was as mindlessly pinheaded as those who think you cant customize your own stuff, is rather un Patriotic. Suppose, i never put a better carburator on my car. I want mor e mileage, well this is hardware,as long as its hurts no one and makes for fun, go for it. just seen me the cheat sheets ok.
