Rasputin Kicked My Ass

Well, maybe not really… but enough to warrent the title.

See tonight I went over to Rob’s for some salmon. He enjoys cooking when somebody else is buying the supplies for it. Well there was a lot of prep time for what he was cooking so I took the effort to use that time drinking some “prohibition speakeasy beer” that I had procured earlier in the evening while I was waiting. Actually I wasn’t a big fan of the beer having as Rob put it a Microbrew after taste, so when supper came I was happy to switch to white wine.

The meal was bloody fantastic sporting risotto cooked in chicken stock, broccoli spears and of course the seared salmon which was cooked in a thick red pepper sauce.

While eating it only seemed natural to finish off the bottle of wine. I mean who wants to try to cork it up again somehow…. Alas, the wine got empty and I was going to leave but made a comment that I needed to stop at the liquor store near him to pick up some quality beer since the ones near me have had lousy selection the last couple times. In making this comment it was taken that I wanted to drink more, and of course If I were to drink more I would need to share. So we went over to that liquor store and I bought a creamy stout and some Rasputin beer.

This is the type of beer that you can only rationalize buying after already having a good buzz going since for 4 bottles it cost $11, but of course it was called Rasputin so we knew it had to be good/evil (or at least powerful).

Originally when I had made the comment to stop there I had planned on going home and not drinking anymore, but now I was left with few, if any choices, being drawn in by the evil charisma that is Rasputin…

The beer was actually quite good and as expected, quite strong. I only had one of them but upon finishing it was informed that i needed to drink another beer, so I switched to the creamy stout to finish the night off. That went down quite fast and I decided it a good idea to go home then.

It was weird. After all that drinking, I did not have any real effects from it. I mean I don’t drive home if I feel off, I typically stay somewhere for an hour or two and drink water but I knew I could have easilly passed a road side sobriety test, though I knew there would be no reason for me to be issued one…

So I left. Upon nearing home though, I decided I had a craving for ice cream. Now before I moved here I had been obsessed with ice cream, but since being here I had only bought ice cream twice. Having pretty much kicked the obsession I could only attribute it to Rasputin’s evil grip on my subconcious thoughts. So I caved in and went to wallmart to indulge, where I decided it was best to purchase my ice cream in bar form for quicker/easier use. Yes, it was so quick and easy that I ate it in the car on the way home, and to my dismay have recently discovered that I shared this ice cream bar with my shirt.

When I got home I decided to watch some anime that I had downloaded and then went to bed. Of course, the only reason I am writing this is because I didn’t sleep all that well. I mean I got up at 5 am and started writing a blog post if you can believe that….

Still, I can’t deny the power of Rasputin, nor can I deny the power of his beer. I still have two of them left that I can save for some other night of sleepless debotchery.

Have you not learned yet that dairy products do not usually go well with beer, and only go well with some liquors? (See Post Absinthe, Beer and Milk.)

You seem a little surprised that you didn’t sleep all that well. And did you ever think that Rasputin might have been lactose intolerant? Maybe he was keeping you from sleeping because you drank his beer and then gave him terrible gas. If not sleeping well was the only consequence of your actions, then you should consider yourself lucky!
