Ok so I get it home.   The box… it’s damn sexy.   This is the sexiest box I have ever seen.  I don’t even know what the box is made of but I believe it is some kind of composite plastic.  It’s built like a rock… a sexy rock….

The phone can’t be used until it is activated.  So I turn on iTunes and it crashes… Go Figure.  So I go and download the new version which is what I figured it wanted me to despite not saying so.  Now it worked and I was able to go through the activation.  I had to laugh because before I was even done with the setup and giving Apple my billing information I got a phone call on it which kind of creeped me out since I did not want to disconnect it from the cradel to answer it but the cord was to far away not to.  I caved and did so.

At the end it said it could sync bookmarks and contacts from my programs.  However it would not let me pull bookmarks from Firefox (only Internet Explorer and Safari).  That seemed dumb since safari was able to pull bookmarks from Firefox and they use basically the same system to save bookmarks… oh well, I will pull the safari bookmarks. 

Then I wanted it to pull my contact data from Thunderbird or the address book associated with it.  But alas, no dice.  I could use the windows address book or Microsoft Outlook.  Since there was no way to just copy my phone book from my old phone at this time I decided that I would not be beaten and I opened up the Outlook 2007 I just happened to have laying around unused that had my address book and calendar in it though it had not been updated in the last year. 

It took me forEVER to update my contacts.  I mean I had to delete about 100 people that were in my address book that I would not ever contact again and add phone numbers for people that I only had email addresses for.  Also I had to add everybody that I knew in Arizona since they were not in my address book yet.  I don’t know how long I spent at this but it was probably nearly 2 hours.  I finally got the phone to sync all that data and I was damn happy to leave and go to Olive Garden for some nice food. 

The A/C was like a snow machine inside of Olive Garden which I was not to fond of, but whatever… bring on the food… At this time my friend Rob was playing with my phone and as the waitress came over she was like “wow is that one of those new phones???” and then right after her another lady who was brining us water was like “whoa, isn’t that one of those new phones….”.  Yep, I said.  Then the one lady was like “didn’t I see you on TV?”.  To which I was honest and said that it was doubtful, though I thought about it again and decided that if asked that question again I would say yes, since people would prefer to be right and I would prefer to be on TV.  : )

I needed to stop at the grocery store on the way home and pick up a couple things.  While waiting in line for the girl to scan my items I decided to play with my iPhone to which she said “whoa… isn’t that one of those new phones?”… Yes, yes it is… In the commotion she somehow managed to take my $1.79 roast beef and instead charge me -$1.79.  Yes if you didn’t notice that it was a negative symbol.  I wasn’t buying much but at the end she told me I had saved $1.79 ; )

Yes, this phone seemed at this point at least to have magical powers.  So I decided the best thing to do would be to go out to a club.  My friend was playing a gig at midnight and I had missed his last show because of being raped (money wise…. sigh…) by the girls at the Tilted Kilt. 

I sent him a message and was playing with my phone.  It took him 30 minutes to respond and by that time I was dead exhausted from sitting around in the heat all day.  I was still going to go until he gave me an out and said there was no need and he had another gig coming up soon.

I am sure I will hear about how many sexy women there were there and how they would have all wanted me for my iPhone when I talk to him next };->~

Good / Bad / Ugly

Ok so in tooling around the web I have noticed a lot of things that don’t work.  My site for example loads and looks beautiful but it seems to have some kind of layering issue because I cannot click ANYTHING on EITHER of my designs.  Which really sucks since with my vertical artwork the site looks badass in the vertical view and I don’t have to rotate the phone to use it in theory. 

Ok so beyond the fact that the best site on the net doesn’t work ;)  Neither does Flash or Java Applets…. Um…. Flash if #$^&%!* HUGE these days.  That will NEED to change for the good of all mankind (the elite people of mankind who own iPhones). 

The next thing that upset me is that despite me loading it up with mp3’s from iTunes (which is a pain in the ass when you have to actually use iTunes since I cannot let it automatically sync my music since I have 450 gigs of it Vs. the 8gigs on the entire iPhone.  You have to do some real bullshit just to move songs over.  I mean COME ON APPLE have you ever heard of drag / drop?????  Now as I was saying I got the mp3’s on and then…. I couldn’t use ANY of them as a ringtone!?!?!?  This means that apple is going to do some kind of bullshit where we have to buy ringtones.  I know, somebody will figure out a way to bypass this once they make a system for it, however they have yet to make a system for adding ringtones so at this point I am SOL and am stuck with their lame choices.  Grr…

The keyboard is a pain in the ass but that’s just because I have fat fingers.  If I would have traded my hands in for some little Japanese fingers it would of been fantastical.  It is however nice that if you go to far to one side that you can just slide your finger over to get the correct letter.

The Youtube integration is kind of cool, however again.  It’s NOT flash so that means you can only watch the videos that they have specifically re-encoded to be mp4s, which is NOT a huge amount at this point. 

I love the alarm clock, but again I NEED MORE RINGTONES since theirs suck.  The alarm lets me tell it which days to reoccur so I will no long have to disable and re-enable my alarm for days off.

The Google Maps is cool and useful and also the transition from using AT&T’s EDGE Network to WiFi works pretty well as well.  As soon as it sees that you can get a better strength connection on an open network it tells you and gives you the option to switch. 

The call clarity is beautiful and I like the earbuds with the little button to click to switch tracks etc..

The camera is really nice… I would take a picture of itself but you would only see the ass-end in the mirror and that would suck.  Perhaps I will use somebody’s digital camera to take a picture of the phone and the sexy box…

I am a little annoyed that at launch they don’t have any games in the iTunes store or even any ringtones.  If they had simply taken the games they had and made them work on the iPhone I would of spent another $4.99 to buy Bejeweled or something since the screen is gorgeous and I can’t play flash/java games online ;(

All in all the iPhone is amazing, but they could really stand to make some firmware updates to make it less crippled.  Flash would take this thing a HUGE distance and uncripping it so that you can use music you already own on it would make hordes of people happy. 

Ok, so yesterday I stood in line for an iPhone.  They were to be released at 6pm and originally I was not going to start waiting in line until 3pm.  However my roommate had the news on and they were talking about the huge lines to get an iPhone that had started forming the day before.

I decided that it was worth it to go grab some lunch and then check it out.  I decided that going to an AT&T store in town would give me a better chance than an Apple store.  I got there at 1pm and to my surprise there was only 17 people in line!  I decided this was an opportunity so I set my chair down and started making friends with the people in line. 

The guy towards the end made some comment that only 1 person was showing up every 3 hours, to which I said “shit, then I’ll come back in 3 hours”.  We laughed and I decided that I would stay and protect my chair until I had made friends with the people on both sides of me before leaving. 

Well in about 30 minutes a Mexican family showed up and didn’t seem to speak English but seemed to want to be in line.  They however were not socializing so I still stayed.  Then after they got some of the free water that AT&T was giving out they left… The next guy showed up and he was cool but he was there just to put his chair down and go but he said he would be back as soon as he went home and changed.  Well by the time he returned he still hadn’t changed but he did bring us some Vitamin Water which was cool. 

Anyways, at 2 something the line more than doubled but I just decided that I was no acclimated to the heat outside (I was in the shade so the 111 degrees wasn’t so bad) and I was getting along with the people so I just decided to stay. 

The guy next to me seemed eerily like an alternate version of me in 20 years if I were to change my life slightly and be a more bubbly person.  His name was Jim… Yes, that’s right the friendly more fun version of my name.  Jim drove a Beetle, which would be a less sexy but still a similar compact car to what I drive.  He had broken free of his job awhile ago and him and the 2 other people sitting in line in front of me had started an Internet Marketing company.  They were all about web 2.0 and AJAX (as am I), and they also appreciated a good joke.

Anywho, all twilight zoneish circumstances aside.  Eventually it was time for a phone.  We all put our chairs away and eagerly stood awaiting for them to let us in the store.  They took the first 10 who all seemed like it was taking them forever!!! I mean they all had to paroose through the accessories etc.. 

See it should of been lightning no matter if you were a current customer or not because you don’t activate the phone with the store.  You take it home and activate it through iTunes!  Also the people who were in line with me were not going to have a problem with a credit check if they were a new customer since they all had plenty of money and even if they had a deposit it wouldn’t have been an issue so I don’t know what was taking everybody so long.  When I got in there I didn’t even look at the accessories (they will have more selection and be cheaper online), and I was in and out in 4 minutes, leaving before most of the people in front of me!

The guy at the counter had to ask if I wanted a 4gb or and 8gb iPhone to which I bet him a dollar that not a single person who was waiting in that line was going to get the 4gb version until the 8gb sold out, since it was only $100 less ($500 instead of $600) and 8gb is not really enough space if you start using this thing as a computer or an iPod.  He agreed but wouldn’t bet since nobody before me had asked for a 4gb model. 

The line outside cheered for me as I walked out of the store ; ) This is getting long so I will break it into two posts… the before / after.

So I am working on a new design for this site.  It’s been fairly time consuming because I am rewriting all the sections.  I do however expect it to launch either this weekend or the next if I am too busy playing with my new iPhone (assuming I can even get one this Thursday) to finish site.

Some mexican dude thought he would be really slick and just hotlink to my sega genesis/nintendo pages. Now I thought my scripts prevented this but he managed to get around. Well a little research and some creative modifications to an image linking script and walah…. Instant revenge….

The site: aw3bo.net owner/asshole will probably take down these pages the very second he sees what they are doing, probably by the time some of you read this…. However it’s HILARIOUS if you get there on time…

If not, please view the actual error page instead… This is what people on his site will see when they choose either nintendo or genesis… Now it’s funny on my site, but when I can make somebody else’s site show that inside their frame page, that is just hilarious. The sad thing is, the guy made a fairly nice looking page, he shouldn’t have needed to link to my pre-made pages.

So for some reason I decided it was a good idea to go to my local bar after work. I haven’t been there in awhile and I felt like a drink…. So I had a couple pitchers or so and went home. I got home at 6pm and wasted a little time and then at about 6:30 I went to go take a nap. Knowing full well that if I was not woken up, I would sleep until it was too late.

So I asked my roommate to wake me up at 8pm. He even clarified that it was 8pm that I wanted to be woken up at. So now, I am awake. It’s not 8pm, but rather another day with AM. I need to go to work in a few hours and need to go back to sleep. Grr…

Total things accomplished today: 0

Moral of the story: always set an alarm clock, it will not forget.

So I was working on my new page and I guess I had my old page open as well.  Turns out I changed a variable that without the proper script loading makes the main index page on this site look rather ugly. 

Sorry about that.  only took me 4.5 seconds to fix and upload. 

Wow is that bloody time consuming.  Don’t even bother contacting me to request that I take my “unsorted” list and sort it into genres.  A week or two ago I added 400 new nes games doubling them, and now I have added more than double the amount of Sega Genesis games that are on my system. 

Since I am not ready with new design yet I think I will at least update the drop down menu’s color to the new design color so that people will notice that the games have doubled since they aren’t used to going to the unsorted section since there wasn’t one…

Whatever, enjoy not having to request more games (since outside of Japanese ones there really aren’t any more).

Ok, that sucked… A fucking bug flew into my eye… as I was blinking…. Oh my god does that suck. I know it didn’t just hit the eye and fly out because as I washed my eye out it fell into the sink! My eye was so sore… Had to run out to my car and put the (hot due to being in my car) Visine drops into my eyes after washing it out which didn’t help much.

Other Things:

• I have been watching a lot of Anime again lately. Everybody should watch “Claymore”. It is pretty cool, only 12 episodes right now, but it’s still coming out.
• Will be working on my site all day between “chores”.
• Looking for a new house to rent in Phoenix/Ahwatukee/Chandler/Scottsdale area.
• Just spent $350 on maintenance things for my car (like radiator flush and A/C recharge), still need to spend another $450 or so to fix suspension problems…
• iPhone comes out next week. I will buy one as soon as it’s available and then make sure my website looks great on it (part of the new design)!
• Jobs going well, a little boring answering questions all day and then coming home to do the same… At least I don’t work for dicks anymore

Not much to say. I was not expecting that my stepdad would be visiting me over fathers day weekend. It was a total surprise up until a couple days before. I was happy to see him and also to get the 4 cases of New Glarus Beer that he smuggled me.

Spent plenty of money over the 3 days that he visited. Also saw Oceans 13 which I believe is as good as Oceans 11. 12 was crap, so I had been worried but it turned out for the best.

Capped off the weekend by taking him to Buffalo Wild Wings to get him some crazy spicy wings. He, of course being psychotic… Not only ate his Blazin’ Wings, but also purchased a bottle of the Blazin’ Sauce for the road. I had one of those damn wings and had to stop eating for a few minutes just to let my mouth cool down.

So that was last weekend, and now this is about a week later and I am just starting to get the things done that I was planning to do last weekend. I haven’t answered any of the questions people have asked yet however I have gotten my laundry and some of my dishes done.. WOOHOO!

Hahaha, what a great way to title a post… It’s got that “made ya look” feel to it.

Ok, so it was a movie. A fairly funny movie. It was made by the people who made “The 40 year old virgin”. It was however not THAT funny. The movie was like 2½ hours long, though not droning it seemed not to need to be that long either.

I was fortunate enough to have had a couple beers and despite not getting a bar seat in the little theater, was pleased to see that after 2½ of sitting in one position, my ass was not in crippling pain.

My verdict: Worth watching, but wait until a DVD Rip comes out… It’s not like it takes long these days.
