Time to switch to utorrent
Monday, July 31st, 2006 | Rants | No Comments
Doh, I wrote this post and then searched for something on google using firefox 2.0 beta and forgot that tab mix plus extension is disabled. AKA typing in search box overwrites current tab.
Anyways, super quick rewrite: Azureus 3.0 will be commercial, which will suck, but more than that it will work like itunes and kazaa. Azureus has been a pioneer of some of the best bit torrent features ever that have all been copied, but I would highly recommend that you stay away from it when it hits 3.0. Get utorrent from utorrent.com and also install peer guardian (and configure it to block p2p and not show allowed connections).
That’s it, sorry it’s just a quick rewrite, but I am just saying, if you haven’t switched. Do it before 3.0.

Selling parts and finding cockroaches
Monday, July 10th, 2006 | Helpful | No Comments
Yeah, my day off…! I shall spend it watching endless tv~!
Wait, no can do. Somebody has emailed me saying he will buy my processor etc.. I have had this posted on Craigslist for like a month. I was meaning to turn around and sell it on ebay one of these days since it seemed that nobody was interested in it, but then poof… a buyer.
Of course, he lived in Tempe and only agreed to buy it if I installed it. Well whatever, that’s no big deal, it’s better than lowering my price (since I was still asking near retail price for a part that I openly listed as having been used before). So I drive out there and figured, put it in and a quick run out the door.
Damn was he crafty to get me to install that, because it was not just a simple part install. His motherboard didn’t support the chip right off the bat. I had to update his motherboard bios to get it to even support it. However he didn’t have internet access on that computer, and once I got online on a different computer and downloaded new firmware it was meant to be run from dos, which was another pain in the ass since he didn’t have a floppy to put it on and I did not have my memory stick formatted to be self-booting.
Blah, well anyways he got an hour and a half of work upgrading bios and installing amd drivers and teaching how to properly use both core’s of processor (opperating system shows it as 2 processors). He got all the install free because I was only there to sell him a part. I also can’t charge for computer service anymore unless it’s done for the company I work for. Of course they did agree when they hired me that I could still sell off the parts I had to sell, so that’s what I did.
Well, I get home only to discover a new insect in the bath tub. Not really a new type or anything, but so far the only bugs I have seen in the house have been crickets. Lots of crickets. Well this was not a cricket. It was a cockroach. Damn those fuckers are big. Apparantly Ken has also seen a cockroach which is why he has been bitching to instantly wash all the dishes. See we have a retarded dish washer where you need to wash the dishes before washing the dishes. I once made fun of somebody for doing that because I thought she was just being stupid (well this girl was). Turns out there really are dish washers that don’t have a place to actually send food particles through and just bounces them around. Yes, stupid, I agree.
Well, I personally don’t want to have cockroaches running around. I mean I am always bragging about not having any bugs down here. Of course I think cockroaches aren’t really bugs, more of some kind of small animal, but still they should just bugger off.

So got done with work tonight and went straight out to a bar with Rob to watch Ultimate Fighting Championship. Ate a fairly decent burger and had some decent beer, while watching some guys kick the shit out of each other. When that got done I was just going to drop Rob off at his place and go home, but there was a hot girl sitting on the tree swing in the front yeard and a party going on inside so I decided to stay.
I said hi to the hot girl and went in and got some Mead to drink and then, strangely without any hesitation went directly back outside to talk to the girl on the swing. Of course she had moved to sitting on the back of her car so I went over and joined her. I don’t know what I said at all at this point but it was good stuff because she kept laughing/smiling and I kept talking.
She wanted to go back to join the party, so I helped her down went inside to get some more liquid fun. She went out back to the party and I followed her out with more Mead. Of course she had gone next to this big guy with a bunch of tatoos named Mark, who was apparantly her boyfriend since she came with him and started making out with him on and off after I came out. Ok that kind of sucked, but tonight I was unphased. So I started talking to everybody else at this party, and was soon entertaining another girl my same age, as well as faking sign language to some friends of Peg’s that had showed up. Well I was kind of translating to other people, but honestly I don’t know how much of my translation was accurate, and how much was mst3k’d.
The end of the night everybody had left except me and the woman I was entertaining so I asked her out and was told that she was dating somebody. Unphased (and cocky) again, I said “he couldn’t possibly be as cool as me though?”. She said, “Well I don’t know yet”, and was then informed that I should come to Joel’s (rob’s roommate that threw party) Wednesday night poker games. It wasn’t really a date offer, but kind of an open-ended opportunity.
See, It was weird. I may not have won some grand prize or anything this night, but I had NO FEAR at all. I didn’t feel rejection when the first hot chick I was talking to started to make out with some other guy, and wasn’t upset by the other one when she said she was seeing somebody else.
This is how life should always work. I don’t know what it was working for me tonight, but it was certainly more fun this way. Now, don’t get me wrong. The experience of this night does not really help that much with talking to girls at bars, but for other smaller group events I think it’s great. The only time I can remember having this same experience was at a friends wedding once when I just had no concept at all of anything except lust. That night I totally ignored the fact that one girl came with a guy (who wanted her) AND had a boyfriend that wasn’t with her, who wasn’t a bad guy.
It’s weird, most nights when I drink I just just get dizzy or tired, but on some nights, I just feel no shame or any other weak feelings. Life on this type of emotions all the time would be a total rush.
Tidbits

At one point I was willing to dedicate a lot more time to this than I am now. Now I think up things and just end up telling them to people on the phones. I mean that makes a lot of sense since I don’t see people as often I need things to say when I call them. However I know it’s boring knowing that there won’t always be new content on this site.
In fact the “6.0 design” has just gotten laid off for an unforseeable amount of time. I mean I want to launch my new design and format, and I want it to dominate the internet and start to make me money off the website, but currently it is just not a priority.
I think it’s going to take me another 2-3 weeks or so before I am back to doing the things I was doing before taking this job. The job keeps me really busy bouncing all over the valley, and when I have been getting home I am eating, drinking, watch a movie, going to bed, repeat x6 days a week.
I kind of enjoy my job. I mean, I don’t enjoy having a job at all, but who does. For what it’s worth though, I am very glad I ended up with this job over GoDaddy. Not just because it pays more, but because I don’t have to be in a corporate environmnent sitting in a cubicle. Man was not meant to live in a cubicle.
Ask-a-Smartass is kind of screwed up. It still kind of works, but it’s having different problems in both browsers, that yes… could be fixed with a little attention, but honestly I am currently glad that the idiotic question count has dropped. I mean sometimes there are some really quality questions on there that I can give really choice answers to, but lately it’s just been retarded kids asking about video games and me ignoring or deleting the questions.
Superman was pretty good. Well it was way better than the last X-Men movie. The special effects were fantastic. Kevin Spacey did fantasic job as a dark Lex Luthor. The guy who played superman looked like they pulled him from the comics, like he should. Lois however, strange choice. I mean the actress looked damn good when she was playing a blond surfer girl in some movie, and she fit the part really well in Beyond the Sea (also w/kevin spacey), but as Lois Lane she just kind of sucked. The lines they gave her sucked and she just was not very sexy etc… I mean terry hatcher did a way better job in Lois & Clark, and in this I just don’t see how Superman would want her so bad. I am however now finding the old superman movies to watch those, since this brought back good memories of those.
I met this really personable, fun, attractive girl today. Of course she was married, so I dropped it.
Hmm, did I write this and then ignore it for several hours only to not finish it and then want to go to bed and just say screw it and hit publish? Me thinks so.
